Meibukan is a branch of Goju-ryu karate. It was created by Meitoku Yagi, a top student of Okinawan Goju-ryu founder, Chojun Miyagi, and a descendant of the first 36 Chinese families who settled in Okinawa When it was part of the Ryukyu Kingdom, Meibukan means, “House of the pure minded warrior.”
in 1952, Grandmaster Yagi was the first student to be granted permission by Miyagi to open his Meibukan dojo before his death the following year. Yagi is the recognized Menkyo Kaiden (successor) of the Goju-ryu style.
In 1963 was the recipient of Miyagi’s karate uniform & black belt by the Miyagi family as recorded in the annals of Okinawan history.
